Tumat Choduraa

Choduraa Tumat is the artistic leader of all female throat singing folk ensemble Tyva Kyzy.

Choduraa was born on 17th January 1974, in Iyme village, of Chöön-Khemchik region. She was fond of listening to the khoomei and sygyt performed by her brothers. She is now an accomplished performer of the Tuvan throat-singing styles: khoomei, sygyt, kargyraa, ezenggileer and chylandyk. Choduraa has been performing since 1998. As well as throat-singing, she sings traditional folk songs, plays doshpuluur, igil, byzaanchy, khomus and chadagan.

She is a Laureate of the International festival "Dembildei - 2002", "Best female performer" nomination in the International festival "Sygyt and khoomei in the land of Övur-2000” and was recognized as “Honorary performer of khoomei in Chöön-Khemchik region” during the Festival of Live music "Üstüü-Khüree-2000". Choduraa teaches at the Pedagogical College of Tuvan State University in Kyzyl, and also at the Children’s Music School named for N. Rusheva, Kyzyl, and she is a teacher in the College of Arts in Kyzyl.

Choduraa Tumat - graduated on Chadagan from the Department of National Instruments, Kyzyl College of Arts (1995) and later from the East-Siberian State Academy, Faculty of Arts in 2002(Ulan-Ude, Buryatia). From 2012 Choduraa is the competitor in postgraduate study of the Tuva State university, carries out research on female throat singing. Choduraa teaches at the Pedagogical College of Tuvan State University in Kyzyl, and also at the Children’s Music School named for N. Rusheva, Kyzyl, and she is a teacher in the College of Arts in Kyzyl. Choduraa Tumat is the teacher of the highest category with experience on training Russian and foreign students to skills of throat singing and traditional music.

Choduraa Tumat had been participative in the international cultural projects of state Universities in USA, had performed with Tyva Kyzy folk ensemble in France (De La Vile), Germany, Japan, Finland, Sweden, France, Spain, Portugal, Denmark (MUTE COMP. PHITHICAL THEATRE, Copenhagen ) . She had to perform on festivals and cultural events with the famous tuvan male singers as Kongar-ool Ondar (2007 France), Otkun Dostai (Japan 2001, Germany 2008).

Dostay Otkun

Otkun Dostay is one of the known throat singers of Tuva from oldest generation who had been to play as a member with the legend tuvan folk Enseble “Tuva” from the end of 80th of last century. Otkun had been to work as a producer of many traditional folk groups and ensembles with inviting them to Japan, Turkey, Holland, Germany and ets… As a musician he had been participate in many international cultural projects and festivals. One of this examples can be next: he had been playing and performing in the folk groups “Ozum”, “Ortemchei”; “Ene-Sai”, “Tyva khogshum” and participated in international cultural projects as “EuroAsia” and Vershki da Koreshki (free jazz), theatre project Noah (Holland) (see the book of Mark van Tongeren) . Otkun Dostay started to work as a manager of the female throat singing group Tyva Kyzy since 2000.

Otkun was born on 30th January 1970, in Khandagaity village, of Ovur region. He is a Laureate of the International Symposium and festival in 1995, 1998 in nominations "Best performer of khoomei style". He is founder and producer of the International festival of tuvan throat singing "Sygyt and khoomei in the land of Övur” . Otkun Dostay graduated of theatre actor academy in Sankt-Petherburg. Otkun had been to work on Tuvan State TV station, making a life TV programs about traditional music and throat singing. Otkun had been working as a President of UJNESCO department in the Tuvan Government. At this time he is a founder and director of the Tuvan Japanese friendship Center.
